There is an optional Certified Medical Laser Safety Officer exam that is offered by the Board of Laser Safety at the end of this course. To be able to take the exam you MUST apply to the Board of Laser Safety and meet specific educational and work experience requirements. Requirements Once approved by the Board of Laser Safety you may sit for the exam. The total cost to take this exam is $200 ($50 application fee and $150 exam fee). This exam will run from 2:30 to 5:30 PM local time on Saturday following the MLSO course. For more information on the exam details please visit www.lasersafety.org or call 800-345-2737.

The Medical Laser Safety Officer course may help you to review for the exam but should NOT be considered a prep course for the exam. Description:

Course Overview
This course is designed to give the operating room personnel a basic foundation in laser biophysics and tissue interaction. Laser safety protocols will be addressed according to the ANSI Z136.3 Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care Facilities standard. Instruction is accomplished through didactics, lectures and discussions.This course is worth 13 Contact Hours, 2 ABIH CM Points, 13 CECs by AAHP and 2 BLS CM Points.

Who Should Attend
RN's, OR Supervisors, Training Coordinators or anybody who has been assigned the responsibility of LSO in a medical facility.

Course Objectives

  • Discuss laser biophysics and tissue interactions
  • Discuss the laser safety standards according to ANSI
  • List the effects and characteristics of laser wavelengths on tissue
  • Discuss the current treatment modalities with lasers
  • List the indications for specific patient selection when utilizing the different laser wavelengths
  • Explain the operational skills with the different laser delivery devices
  • List the advantages of the laser
Contact Hours
Contact hours are provided by the Laser Institute of America, provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 14801, for 13 contact hours.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations received within 10 business days of course date will be not be refunded. There is a $99 administrative fee for all refunds due to cancellation prior to 10 business days before the start of the course. Attendees may transfer from one course location to another for no charge.
