This course will be held at Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth which is located outside Atlanta. Gwinnett Medical Center–Duluth was completed in 2006, and was designed from the ground up to

Course Overview
This course is three and a half days long and is designed to provide Medical Laser Safety Officers an in depth and thorough look at laser biophysics, tissue interaction, laser delivery systems followed with a hands-on demonstration on multiple laser systems, surgical smoke plume management, anesthesia protocols, laser safety protocols according to the ANSI Z136.3 Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care Facilities standard, and laser safety program management and audits. Instruction is accomplished through discussion, didactics and hands-on demonstrations. This course is worth 17 Contact Hours, and 3.5 BLS CM Points.

- Discuss laser biophysics and tissue interactions
- List the safety standards according to ANSI, Association of Perioperative Nurses, and the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery
- Describe the essential steps that must be in place to ensure safety for patients and personnel
- Describe the roles & responsibilities of the healthcare professional using lasers
- List 3 precautions taken for upper airway laser procedures
- Discuss what standard operating procedures consist of and what records must be kept
- Discuss what to look for in a laser safety audit
- Discuss ethical dilemmas and possible solutions

Contact hours are provided by the Laser Institute of America, provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP 14801, for 17 contact hours.

All attendees will receive a course manual including a resource CD with useful LSO documentation forms, ANSI Z136.3 Safe Use of Lasers in Healthcare Facilities standard, ANSI Z136.1
for Safe Use of Laser standard, LIA Guide for Selection of Laser Eye Protection, and a certificate of completion.

Within 10 business days of the course, the Laser Institute of America will not issue a refund.
